Questions about how Asmbly Labs works
Clear answers about our distributed manufacturing platform. Find out how sellers, makers, and designers work together to fulfill orders locally.
Asmbly Labs is infrastructure for distributed manufacturing, focused on 3D printing. We connect sellers, makers, and designers to enable local fulfillment of physical products. When a customer places an order, we route it to a nearby maker who 3D prints and ships the item locally.
Sellers who want to offer physical products without inventory, makers with 3D printers looking to earn income, and designers who want to license their STL files for royalties. The platform works with Shopify, TikTok Shop, WooCommerce, and other e-commerce platforms.
No. Sellers can offer 3D printed products without owning equipment or holding inventory. Our network of makers handles all production and shipping. If you're a maker, you do need reliable 3D printing equipment to fulfill orders.
Our system automatically routes orders to qualified makers based on location, material capabilities, quality standards, and capacity. This ensures customers receive their orders from the closest available maker who can meet the requirements.
If a maker encounters issues with production, the order is automatically rerouted to another qualified maker in the network. We maintain quality standards and backup capacity to ensure orders are completed reliably.
Fulfillment speed depends on print complexity and local maker capacity. Simple items can often be completed within 1-3 days, while complex or large items may take longer. Local production means shorter shipping distances and faster delivery to customers.
Sellers receive their profit margin after production and platform fees. Makers earn for each completed order based on material, complexity, and time. Designers receive royalties when their licensed STL files are used. All payouts are processed regularly and transparently.
We notify users about platform improvements through email updates and in-platform notifications. Release notes cover new features, routing improvements, and reliability updates so you stay informed about changes that affect your orders and payouts.
Platform improvements are deployed regularly, typically every 2-4 weeks. Most updates happen seamlessly in the background to maintain service reliability. Major feature releases are announced in advance so users can prepare for any workflow changes.
Updates focus on routing accuracy, order processing speed, payment reliability, and quality standards. We also add support for new materials, improve maker matching algorithms, and enhance integration capabilities with popular e-commerce platforms.
No. Active orders continue processing normally during platform updates. We schedule maintenance during low-activity periods and maintain backup systems to ensure continuous order routing and production coordination.
STL files are securely distributed only to authorized makers for specific orders. Files are encrypted in transit and storage, with access controls that prevent unauthorized downloads or sharing. Makers receive files temporarily and only for the duration needed to complete orders.
We collect information needed for order fulfillment including contact details, shipping addresses, and payment information. Makers provide location and capability data for order routing. All data is used solely for platform operations and is not shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
Payment processing follows industry security standards with encrypted transmission and secure storage. We work with established payment processors to ensure your financial information is protected. Card details are never stored on our servers.
Yes. You can request a copy of your data or ask for account deletion at any time. We'll provide your information in a standard format and process deletion requests promptly, while maintaining necessary records for completed transactions as required by law.
We only share information necessary for order fulfillment. Makers receive shipping addresses and production specifications. Sellers see order details and customer information needed for support. No personal data is shared beyond what's required for the transaction.
Sellers are responsible for product descriptions, pricing, customer service, and ensuring they have proper licensing for any designs they offer. You must handle customer inquiries and manage your product listings accurately.
Makers must produce items according to specifications, meet quality standards, ship orders promptly, and maintain reliable equipment. You're responsible for material costs, shipping, and communicating any production issues quickly.
Designers retain full ownership of their STL files and designs. When designers license their files through the platform, they grant limited rights for production and sale. Makers and sellers cannot redistribute or modify design files without permission.
We provide mediation for disputes between users regarding order quality, delivery, or payment issues. For serious violations of platform terms, we may suspend accounts. Legal disputes are handled through standard arbitration processes.
Yes. You can cancel your account at any time, but you remain responsible for completing any active orders. Outstanding payments will be processed according to normal schedules, and you must fulfill existing commitments before account closure.
